Developments and investments

Quebec Stevedoring Company Ltd has enjoyed constant growth. This is seen in the recent opening of new terminals, such as that of Iroquois Landing in Chicago in January 2006.

Furthermore, other expansion projects will enable the company to cover a broader base in coming years.

We also invest substantially in our facilities every year. This includes expanding and building warehouses, acquiring equipment and developing new technologies.

Here are a few recent examples:

In the summer of 2006, to better serve our clientele and boost productivity related to solid bulk handling, we purchased three high-performance mobile conveyors. This equipment can be easily moved between terminals.

In 2005, we not only added two gantry cranes at the St. Lawrence Stevedoring (SLS) terminal, but also acquired fifteen new grapples and four loaders. We also built a 150, 000-square-foot warehouse to accommodate the needs of Inco. As a result, SLS has become one of the leading terminals in North America for handling nickel concentrate.

In Matane, in 2005, Quebec Port Terminals Inc. more than doubled its interior storage space after expanding its dockside hangar by some 30,000 square feet.

In 2001, an alumina storage dome was built for Alcan at the Port of Québec.

In Sorel-Tracy, we are looking into doubling wharf space.

We boast a wide assortment of mechanical equipment: gantry and mobile cranes, loaders, lift trucks, conveyors, tractors, elevating devices, grabs, buckets, etc. We constantly renew this equipment to stay at the cutting edge of the industry and increase our productivity. Our mechanical workshops are strategically located in our network of port facilities so we can promptly and efficiently maintain this equipment.

New elevating equipment designed by our company is another key to our success. Our engineers have acquired enviable expertise in this area. The handling of new products has encouraged them to be inventive. A prime example of this is wind turbines, a market that is currently in full expansion.
