The challenge faced by Quebec Stevedoring Company Ltd’s environment and sustainable development committee is to ensure that the company’s behaviour, actions, policies and regulations – in short, all its professional activities – are geared toward achieving sustainable development. The committee oversees the distribution, implementation and periodical review of the policy and ensures that employees, clients and suppliers are not only aware of this policy, but also subscribe to protecting the environment and fostering sustainable development. The committee also reports regularly to management on its activities.

• Referring to these issues when drawing up contracts with clients and suppliers;
• Responsibly managing handling-related activities aimed at protecting the environment and the health and safety of employees, clients and the general public
• Adhering to the principle of recycling. The company also ensures that materials are reused in each division whenever it is economically and environmentally acceptable to do so;
• Analyzing, designing and managing its facilities and equipment in accordance with regulations and standards in effect;
• Raising awareness among its personnel and suppliers by training them and making them accountable;
• Collaborating with governments in developing standards and regulations that pertain to innovative technological methods and that are economically feasible and based on environmental impact assessment studies;
• Designating, at the head office, a person responsible for implementing this policy in all facilities.

Port safety

Our terminals meet the standards of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. The new measures aim at ensuring the safety of sea transport and cargo handling from one port to the next.

Company management considers the health and safety of workers a top priority. Regular meetings enable employees and management to discuss issues and review the requirements for handling various cargoes. The company’s accident rate is among the lowest in the industry.
