One step closer to the electrification of our facilities in Port Colborne, Ontario
November 20, 2024Recently announced by the Honorable Anita Anand, President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Transport, QSL will receive $6.05 million to start its shore power project in Port Colborne, Ontario.
With a total value of 12.1 million dollars, this project aims to install shore power terminals to allow ships to recharge their batteries on board. This will reduce dependence on auxiliary engines and minimize the emission of greenhouse gases.
These charging facilities will power ships operating on the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence, thereby contributing to establishing a green maritime corridor in the region.
Reducing the ecological footprint of maritime operations in Canada is a collective mission,” said Robert Bellisle, President and CEO of QSL. “With the federal contribution through The Green Shipping Corridor Program, the supply of our communities and the growth of our economy will be conducted sustainably, respecting the wishes of citizens who place environmental protection and the fight against climate change at the top of their priorities.
